The Artisan vs. The Crafter

I had an interesting conversation with my next door neighbour at the Government Street market on Sunday. I told here that I used actual original stamps in my jewelry and she couldn't get her head around the fact that they were not reproductions.
I told her that using a copies would be cheating my customers, she responded with the idea that no one would be the wiser. I take a fragile everyday item that is slightly inaccessible and make it into a tangible artifact that can be enjoyed outside a stamp book. Hunting down the stamps is half the fun and 3/4 of the work. I think my process and my idea of one of a kind handmade is what divides artisans from crafters.

Rusty Iron From Kansas

I come across some vary cool items on Etsy's Vintage pages and Susan Scott of Sushipotparts never disappoints.

"Primitive and rusty, this old iron is way past its useful days but still functions as a unique object! My favorite features are the manufacture's plate, "Wizard", and the charred looking wooden handle. The handle is loose but seems intact. I'll be careful to protect it well during shipment. However you choose to employ this iron, I doubt you will be disappointed! Enjoy."
